Make these P.F. Chang’s style chicken lettuce wraps at home. This easy, low-carb recipe uses ground chicken in a savory Asian sauce with water chestnuts, ready for a quick weeknight dinner or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (8 ounce) can water chestnuts, drained and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions, for garnish
  • 1 head butter lettuce or iceberg lettuce, leaves separated and washed

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground chicken to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is browned and cooked through, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add the minced garlic and diced onion to the skillet with the chicken. Cook for 2 minutes until the onion softens slightly.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ground ginger, and black pepper.
  5. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken and stir to coat everything evenly.
  6. Stir in the chopped water chestnuts. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and everything is heated through.
  7. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in half of the chopped green onions.
  8. Arrange the lettuce cups on a serving platter. Spoon the savory chicken filling into each lettuce cup.
  9. Garnish with the remaining green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For a low-carb or keto chicken lettuce wraps option, check your hoisin sauce label, as some brands contain added sugar.
  • You can substitute ground turkey for ground chicken if you prefer.
  • Serve with a side of extra soy sauce or Sriracha for dipping if you like more flavor.
