Create a rich, smooth chocolate dip perfect for entertaining or a romantic night in. This easy recipe uses just five simple ingredients and works well on the stovetop or in a slow cooker.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips (use good quality chocolate for best results)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare your dipping items first. Arrange fruits, marshmallows, pound cake cubes, and pretzels on a platter.
  2. If using the stovetop: Place the chocolate chips in a medium, heavy-bottomed saucepan over low heat.
  3. If using a slow cooker: Place the chocolate chips in the small insert of a 1.5-quart slow cooker set to LOW.
  4. Pour the heavy cream into the saucepan or slow cooker with the chocolate.
  5. Stir constantly and gently until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth. Keep the heat very low to prevent scorching.
  6. Remove from heat (or turn off the slow cooker). Stir in the vanilla extract, salt, and butter until the butter is fully incorporated and the fondue is glossy.
  7. Transfer the fondue immediately to a fondue pot or keep it warm in the slow cooker on the ‘Warm’ setting for serving.
  8. Serve immediately with your prepared dippers.

Notes

  • For a copycat Melting Pot flavor, substitute 1/2 cup of the heavy cream with 1/2 cup of evaporated milk and add 1 tablespoon of creamy peanut butter with the chocolate.
  • If the fondue becomes too thick while serving, stir in one teaspoon of warm milk or cream at a time until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Use high-quality chocolate like Ghirardelli or Lindt for the creamiest texture.
