Create a festive centerpiece for your holiday morning with these easy pull-apart cinnamon rolls shaped like a Christmas tree. This recipe uses store-bought dough for simple assembly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (13.2-ounce) can refrigerated cinnamon roll dough (8 rolls total)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • 1 small orange or yellow candy for the star
  • Green food coloring (gel preferred)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a large baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the 8 cinnamon rolls. Cut 6 of the rolls in half crosswise, creating 12 half-rolls. Keep the remaining 2 rolls whole.
  3. Arrange the dough pieces on the prepared baking sheet to form a tree shape. Place the 2 whole rolls at the bottom center for the trunk. Arrange the 12 half-rolls around the trunk in rows, starting with 5 rolls across the bottom row, then 4, then 3, to create a triangle shape.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Brush this mixture evenly over all the dough pieces. Sprinkle the chopped nuts over the dough if you are using them.
  5. Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown.
  6. While the rolls bake, prepare the icing. In a medium bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add a few drops of green food coloring and mix until you achieve a light green color.
  7. Remove the baked rolls from the oven. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  8. Place the candy star on the top point of the tree shape. Drizzle the green icing over the entire tree shape.
  9. Serve warm as a delightful Christmas breakfast idea or holiday brunch centerpiece.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use homemade cinnamon roll dough instead of store-bought dough.
  • If you do not have green food coloring, you can use white icing and decorate with red and green sprinkles for a festive look.
  • This pull apart bread holiday treat is excellent for sharing with family Christmas tradition breakfast.
