A playful and elegant Halloween appetizer featuring mozzarella skulls, fresh tomatoes, and basil, drizzled with balsamic glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large ball fresh mozzarella
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes
  • 1 bunch fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. To mold the mozzarella skulls, you can use small skull-shaped silicone molds. Press small pieces of fresh mozzarella into the molds and freeze until firm, about 1-2 hours. Alternatively, you can carefully carve small mozzarella balls into skull shapes using a paring knife.
  2. Wash and halve the cherry tomatoes.
  3. Wash and dry the basil leaves.
  4. Arrange the mozzarella skulls, cherry tomato halves, and basil leaves on a serving platter or board to create a spooky design.
  5. Drizzle the entire arrangement with olive oil and balsamic glaze.
  6. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper just before serving.

Notes

  • For extra spooky detail, you can use black olives to create eyes and a nose on the mozzarella skulls before molding or carving.
  • If you don’t have skull molds, you can also use small round cutters to create different shapes.
  • Ensure your mozzarella is well-chilled before attempting to carve it for easier handling.
  • The balsamic glaze adds a sweet and tangy finish that complements the fresh ingredients.
