A simple and comforting old-fashioned apple crumble recipe, perfect for a weeknight treat or holiday gathering. This recipe uses common ingredients and is ready in under an hour.

  • 6 medium apples (like Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, rolled oats (if using), and salt.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender, your fingertips, or two forks until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the apples.
  6. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
  7. Let the crumble cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • To reheat, place in a 300°F (150°C) oven for 10-15 minutes.
