Make these simple, savory sausage pinwheels using flaky crescent roll dough. They are perfect for parties, game days, or quick appetizers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage (mild or hot)
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (8 count) refrigerated crescent roll dough

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the cooked and drained sausage, softened cream cheese, and shredded cheddar cheese. Mix until the filling is uniform.
  3. Unroll the crescent roll dough onto a clean surface. Do not separate the triangles; keep the dough in its rectangular sheet form. Pinch the seams together to seal any gaps.
  4. Spread the sausage and cheese mixture evenly over the entire surface of the dough sheet.
  5. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log.
  6. Use a sharp knife to slice the log into 1-inch thick pinwheels.
  7. Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between them.
  8. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and the filling is hot.
  9. Let the pinwheels cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving.

Notes

  • You can prepare the rolled log ahead of time, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours before slicing and baking.
  • For a spicier flavor, use hot pork sausage or add 1/4 cup of drained Rotel (diced tomatoes and green chiles) to the filling mixture.
  • If you prefer a crispier texture, use puff pastry instead of crescent roll dough.
