Make this rich, fudgy brownie bread with a molten hot fudge swirl baked inside. It combines the dense texture of a brownie with the easy form of a loaf cake.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 jar (12 ounces) fudge sauce or hot fudge topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set this dry mixture aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until well combined.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Whisk in the cocoa powder until the batter is smooth.
  6. Gently fold the flour mixture into the wet ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  8. Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  9. Drizzle half of the fudge sauce evenly over the batter layer.
  10. Top with the remaining brownie batter. Drizzle the remaining fudge sauce over the top.
  11. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the fudge sauce into the batter a few times to create ribbons.
  12. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with moist crumbs attached, not wet batter.
  13. Let the bread cool in the pan for 15 minutes before carefully turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  14. Serve warm or at room temperature. Drizzle with extra hot fudge sauce if desired.

Notes

  • For an extra gooey center, warm the fudge sauce slightly before swirling it into the batter.
  • This bread slices best once it has cooled down significantly, allowing the fudgy texture to set.
  • You can substitute the chocolate chips with chopped nuts if you prefer a different texture.
