A quick and flavorful marinade that makes tuna steaks tender and delicious, perfect for grilling or pan-searing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 4 tuna steaks (about 6 oz each)

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish or a zip-top bag, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, honey, and red pepper flakes if using.
  2. Add the tuna steaks to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated.
  3. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes. Do not marinate for longer, as the acid can ‘cook’ the fish.
  4. Remove tuna from marinade and discard the marinade.
  5. Grill or pan-sear the tuna steaks to your desired doneness.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh ginger and garlic.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes to your spice preference.
  • This marinade is also excellent for salmon or other firm fish.
