Stop worrying about dry meat. This slow cooker turkey breast recipe guarantees a tender, moist result every time, making it perfect for easy weeknight dinners or a stress-free holiday centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (3 to 5 pound) bone-in or boneless turkey breast
  • 1 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon dried poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces (optional, for extra richness)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the turkey breast and pat it completely dry with paper towels. This step helps the seasonings stick.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the poultry seasoning, thyme, rosemary, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Rub the seasoning mixture evenly over the entire surface of the turkey breast. If using butter, place the small pieces on top of the seasoned turkey.
  4. Pour the chicken broth or water into the bottom of your slow cooker insert. This liquid creates steam, which keeps the meat moist.
  5. Place the seasoned turkey breast skin-side up in the slow cooker.
  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours, or on HIGH for 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Cooking time depends on the size and whether it is bone-in or boneless.
  7. The turkey is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part reads 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not overcook, as this is the main cause of dryness.
  8. Carefully remove the turkey breast from the slow cooker and let it rest on a cutting board, loosely tented with foil, for at least 15 minutes before slicing. This resting period allows the juices to redistribute.
  9. Slice against the grain and serve immediately. You can use the remaining liquid in the slow cooker to make a simple gravy.

Notes

  • For an extra flavorful, juicy turkey breast, you can lightly rub the turkey with olive oil before applying the dry rub.
  • If you are cooking a larger turkey breast (over 5 pounds), increase the cooking time slightly and check the temperature frequently after the minimum cook time.
  • This recipe works well for meal prep; slice the leftover turkey and store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
