Make perfectly crunchy, homemade sweet potato chips in your oven. This easy recipe yields a healthy alternative to store-bought chips that is sturdy enough for dips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Wash and dry the sweet potatoes completely. You do not need to peel them.
  3. Slice the sweet potatoes very thinly, aiming for 1/16 inch thickness. A mandoline slicer works best for uniform slices.
  4. Place the slices in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and toss until evenly coated.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Sprinkle this seasoning mix over the sweet potato slices and toss again.
  6. Arrange the slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Do not overlap the chips; use two sheets if necessary to avoid steaming.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes. Carefully flip each chip.
  8. Return the sheets to the oven and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, watching closely during the last few minutes to prevent burning. The chips are done when they are deeply colored and crisp.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the chips cool completely on the baking sheets. They will crisp up further as they cool.

Notes

  • For maximum crispiness, soak the sliced sweet potatoes in ice water for 30 minutes before drying them thoroughly. This removes excess starch.
  • If you prefer an Air Fryer Sweet Potato Chips Recipe, cook at 375°F (190°C) in batches for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  • You can customize your Sweet Potato Chip Seasonings by adding chili powder or onion powder.
